Del Stubbs

Del and Rude became friends in the 1980s. Rude always considered Dell one of the finest woodworkers he had ever known. Both have been honored by the Smithsonian Art Museum. We are honored to share a few pieces from our family collection of his work.

Largely self-taught, Del Stubbs studied woodturning with Peter English in Oregon in the mid-1970s. He is renowned for his miniature and microminiature turnings, including a set of nesting eggs in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Well known for his vases, bowls, and inlaid boxes, he has also practiced Irish and South American flute making. After teaching woodturning seminars internationally, Stubbs founded Pinewood Forge in Minnesota, creating specialized tools for traditional Scandinavian woodcraft techniques.

In 1992, Del collaborated with fellow craftsmen Ken Sager and Rude Osolnik on a Redwood Burl Coffee Table. View the piece →

Redwood Burl Coffee Table

A collaboration between Ken Sager, Rude Osolnik, and Del Stubbs

In September 1992, Fine Woodworking magazine featured a remarkable collaboration between three master craftsmen — Ken Sager, Rude Osolnik, and Del Stubbs. The piece, a Redwood Burl Coffee Table, stands as a study in natural form and craft, bringing together the distinct talents and sensibilities of each artist.

The table reflects the deep mutual respect shared among these three craftsmen, each of whom had earned a place among the finest woodworkers of their generation. That their work appeared together in one of the most respected woodworking publications of the time speaks to the caliber of the collaboration.
