History
The fund was established in October 1994 at Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts in honor of Rude and Daphne Osolnik during the event "Woodturning: A Tribute To The Osolniks". Rude has been recognized nationally and internationally as one of the father's of Modern Woodturning. His influence both as a teacher at Berea College and as a wood turner of major pieces now in museums throughout the country to include The Smithsonian, Yale Museum of Art, Renwick, Mayo Foundation, Chicago Museum of Art and History and Boston Museum of Art has marked his place in the advancement of the Arts. Rude and Daphne teamed to serve the arts and crafts in Appalachian Region for many years as teachers and artists.

Presently the fund provides stipends for students and selected individuals to attend courses at Arrowmont School of Arts. The Fund awards scholarships to, The University of Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky University, Centre College, Murray State University and The Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation. The schools are allowed through the Art Departments to award the scholarship to a qualified student. Arrowmont School and The Osolnik Family offer two scholarships each during the calendar year. Applications to apply for the Osolnik Family are available through the web site with links to  Arrowmont's site for class schedules. You may apply to Arrowmont for the scholarships they have to award. The scholarships are primarily for youth and those demonstrating economic need with emphasis in the woodturning field but not to exclude the other media fields.
